I love reading and as of now that is fiction only. Love all genres except horror and for the past few years, been gorging on romance. Thrillers are my first love and add some romance to it then all the more better.

Gabriel Is No Angel

Gabriel Is No Angel - Wendy Haley Rating 3.5 stars
This book was a full solid 4 star read till the last half where the characters started irritating me with their snap judgments and stubborness. The book had a promising start with a gutsy heroine who is ready to belly dance for her cause, she is a process server and has to deliver summons to a man who has been ducking child support for the past two years. Well as things happen the hero a Vice Detective ends up arresting her for prostitution. The hero is new to Vice and though he knew the heroine's name he didn't know Rae was a woman and she didn't tell me who she was.

From the start sparks fly between them and we get a lot of verbal foreplay of sorts but these two are on the opposite sides, the man Peter she needs to summon is needed in a high profile police investigation so she can't be allowed near him, so the hero is tasked by his Captain to keep an eye on her and not reveal what they need from Peter, but the heroine is not dumb and knows something is up. I found the heroine had a big heart even though she pretended she didn't, she took in Peter's ex and his three kids when they were about to lose everything and a puppy as well.

She had a dislike for cops having been married to one and then having that power used against her by her ex and his friends, when she complained no-one believed her and it took her a year to gather evidence to prove it, even then when her ex-husband was kicked off the force she was held in bad light, so for the past three years she has hardened herself. I found the heroine ingenious in the way she out smarted the hero and gutsy and strong.

The hero was a cop who had in a way because of what he had seen on the job, became a bit cynical. At the start these two share good reparte and even when the hero is warned by a cop that the heroine is vindictive it doesn't have much of an effect on him. They kind of fall for each other fast but they are working against each other and not having known each other that long don't have trust.

My problem, the heroine automatically wanted him to trust her, even though she had given him no reason and didn't tell him what happened in the past, that was a bit stupid and the hero was also fast to believe the worst, when he is suspended for harrassing her, he automatically assumes that she was the one who complained without letting her give a chance to speak. I found this behaviour pretty childish on both their parts. The heroine I could kind of fathom she had been hurt but still they were rational adults they should have acted as one. They decide to work together to solve who is behind all the conspiracy and suddenly the hero can see behind all her facade to the sweet person she is and viola all the cynicism disappears and he is willing to listen.

The first half of the book was pretty good and the other half disappointing.
