This book was incredibly sweet, the heroine Maddy is 25 and thinks it is high time she gets over her fear of swimming so she signs up for a beginners class and finds herself in class filled with kids where she meets the instructor Zack, who is drop dead gorgeous and a sweet little girl Theresa.
Maddy ends up fainting and realizes that Zack is none other than the famous Olympian swimmer. He is sweet and tells her maybe she needs to look for private lessons and Maddy who is a social worker tells Zack to keep an eye on Theresa because she thinks something may be happening with her. She thinks that is the end of it, it isn't, they meet again when Zack takes her help in getting Theresa out of ab abusive home.
Maddy was an incredibly sweet heroine who used her puppets to keep the world at a distance and Zack saw through that instantly, he wanted to know the real her. I loved Zack he was a man who had been marred with tragedy, first losing his son Josh to a drowning and then his wife slowly killing herself, another man may have become bitter and given up but not him, he was open to loving again and wanted to adopt Theresa. He is patient with Maddy as well and knows there is more to her fear and he keeps at her until she tells him about her older, religious parents and her struggle with accepting the fact that in a way she was abused. Plus she almost drowned once. I loved how these two fell for each other and somehow just didn't voice that fact to each other for a little while. A pretty sweet read.
