Being a private individual is not bad but that is the thing that comes to bite reclusive writer Shay. After an accident she has been slowly recovering when she learns disturbing things, someone is claiming to be her author alter-ego Shane Neil, all over social media sites and has even visited bookstores especially Elliot's, her ex, her agent too refuses to take her calls.
Shay is a deeply troubled woman and she has reason to be, her life has been one nightmare after the other and she took refuge in Alaska, adopting a pen-name for her books and using her friend Darcy's help but now Darcy is behaving weird and all evidence points to her friend, something Shay does not want to believe.
Elliot still loves Shay but he cannot take the distance she places between them, so he broke up with her six months ago yet he is still hung up on her. He wooed her gently yet she never opened up, then this fake Shane stirs things up, accusing Elliot of rape, something that takes him back to his days in the army and the fake accusations that made him quit and Shay finally opens up and it is devastating to Elliot to learn about the horrors she has been through, her childhood which is a nightmare, her adoption, murder of her adopted mother, her stepfather's crime, everything.
This book was truly terrifying. What do you do when someone is trying to take over your life? Someone who is from the nightmare you cannot remember? The villain was truly terrifying and the twists unexpected.
This book was scary and suspenseful as hell, and played on the fears of the what the internet and a twisted individual can do. I have never read about a heroine who had such a horrific past and this book was not a comforting read but a truly engaging one.ARC provided by publisher through Netgalley.
