Both the h/H had abilities, she was clairvoyant and he psychometric.
The moment they touch they are hit by sizzling chemistry and they have to work together for TRG to track down some antiques of Al Capone, the hero is a pro at it and needs her abilities.
Both of them don't do serious so an affair should be a cake-walk for them but Valerie doesn't want to, she believes in self preservation, always has since she lost her parents at the age of 5, she blamed herself because she had a vision but didn't tell them since she was small and was new to it. Her aunt and uncle took her in and loved her but she still kept some distance, the one time she did fall her boyfriend turned out to be a jerk, using her abilities so she keeps it casual.
The hero too keeps it casual ever since he was struck by lightning at 18 and got his abilities but lost his best friend, he kind of has a death wish and tempts fate. He loves his job and women and doesn't do serious. His family disowned him because of his abilities and it was only his grandfather who believed in him.
I liked these two and their chemistry, they were alike in some ways both of them wary of being involved but they do in a way. He takes care of her when she is overloaded because of the emotions at Alcatraz and that mind seduction thing, awesome
. In the book the heroine was the one to pull away, be it after sex or a conversation going too deep.
There is a suspense and mystery element but it was light. I liked how the hero was the first to fall and wanted to make her stay.
Not as good as the second book but a decent read. I do hope a next installment is in the works.
